Working with people living with cancer

Regardless of whether its cancer or any other form of health issues, treatments can affect hair. It is the saddest thing to look in the mirror and not recognise or ‘see’ your former self. Andrew has for a long time now worked with clients trying to understand what to do with their hair as it regrows, reforms and becomes the new them. Its a daunting task and at their most vunerable, these wonderful people just need a little help to feel good about themselves again, feel confident, and be the best they can be.

At A238, Andrew takes a sympathetic, patient approach to try and work with the hair, not fight it. He wants to let clients regain the ability to look in the mirror and say, “I look bloody great today”.

A238 understand the mental health ramifications of treatment and hair loss and strive to make the salon feel like a ‘safe space’ to regain confidence in not only the ability to talk about issues, but help support them in how they want to be ‘seen again’.

A238 is a young business, but in spring and summer, they will be working with the Macmillan’s Trust to arrange coffee mornings at the salon, to bring a small gathering of people together and have a laugh, make friends and hopefully leave together more confident than when they arrived.
